About this Course

How can we make learning more engaging, relevant, and useful for learners? A good course design can help! When designing a course, we do not only focus on the course content, but how the content will be taught. This course will help educational practitioners develop components of their course plan that are essential for giving learners a quality learning experience across different educational contexts.

What will you learn

You will learn to set goals for your course, identify teaching and learning methods that will help you achieve those goals, and how you can assess whether those learning goals have been met.

If we want students to develop certain knowledge, skills, attitudes and values as an outcome of our course, then we need to pay attention to the connections between how we teach, what students do to learn and how they are assessed.

Course Outline

Week 1
You will learn about the four basic building blocks required for a constructively aligned course. You will also be able to distinguish between course-level learning outcomes and lesson-level objectives by using Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Week 2
This week is all about assessments and their role in learning. You will learn about 3 different types of assessments and their stages and identify the importance of feedback for student learning. You will also design a formative assessment and plan assessments aligned with your course learning outcomes.
Week 3
This week allows you to identify instructional options that support students in achieving learning outcomes and select active learning techniques that heighten the instructional, cognitive, and social aspects of your course.
Week 4
You will describe the role of technology in learning and identify types of technology that can be meaningfully integrated into teaching and learning activities. You will also be able to create collaborative and individual activities in your course using technology.
