About this Course

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) is being designed to introduce teachers to efficient and effective techniques of teaching English as a second language. It aims to equip teachers to teach English across the four language skills, with a focus on grammar and vocabulary. This course is based on five modules: background to language teaching and learning; components of language; teaching listening and speaking; teaching reading and writing and lesson planning and assessment techniques.

Hear from our Course Learners

Maryam Abid

Lecturer, FAST-NUCES

I want to take this opportunity to give a shoutout to the entire LUMSx team and especially Dr. Sannia Hussain for conducting the TESL online course in such an efficient and effective manner. As a language instructor, through this course I learned so much about the importance of collaboration in language teaching, the process of lesson planning, and using educational technology in the classroom. Furthermore, the LUMSx team shared some really valuable resources with us which have a great help in providing strategies for fostering student engagement and motivation. So, as a whole, it has been a memorable learning experience.

Irum Zahra

Principal, Learning Academia

In today’s busy life, having the opportunity to get benefitted of Professional Development Courses with such ease, is remarkable. As I belong to a remote area, travelling costs and shortage of time in routine working days , hampers people like me from opting for PDQs. LUMS initiative of providing distant learning opportunities helped satiate my appetite for new Learning. I strongly believe in ‘Unlearn, Learn, Relearn’. That’s the reason that after having 15 years experience in this field of education I still yearn for new information in order to keep myself updated. Thank you LUMS for extending your support to people nationwide and reaching out to them with your expertise with such aplomb.

Saira Samiullah

Teacher, APS&C Defence Complex

The course covered essential topics like language acquisition theories, teaching methodologies, and classroom management. The interactive platform facilitated engaging discussions, group projects, and live sessions with knowledgeable instructors who provided invaluable guidance and support. The practical assignments and real-world case studies allowed me to apply new techniques directly to my teaching, resulting in improved student engagement and language proficiency. Overall, this course has significantly enhanced my professional skills and rekindled my passion for teaching. I highly recommend it to any educator looking to specialize in TESL.

Bushra Yasmin

Educationist

Found it (the course) helpful – as (compared to) using direct teaching before. Now | have a more interactive way and can adapt the 5E method in the classroom. It helps make English interesting for students as well rather than just tell students the grammar rules

Kanwal Zahra

Teacher

The course was very well designed. Assessments, videos, interactive tables were completely aligned with each other. Overall, it was as good as the google courses I took before.

Zain Shahid

Student

The use of animation and images to convey concepts, coupled with the instructor’s interactive body language and gestures, kept the learning experience dynamic and engaging. It was more than just information – it was a truly immersive experience.

Marium Nawaz

Educationist, Lahore

I would highly recommend the “21st Century Practices” Course! Through this course, I improved my teaching skills and learnt several new pedagogical tools and classroom management techniques.
