When delivering a course or training, have you ever felt that you had the best knowledge of your subject content, but your learners were still unable to achieve the desired skills and knowledge you were aiming for? This means that you need to re-assess and re-evaluate how to deliver your content knowledge to best be able to meet your learners needs and help them achieve the course/training goals. The first step to do this, is develop a robust and learner-centered course design!
Course Design and Development is your one-stop solution for developing a well-designed and holistic course in any educational context. So regardless of whether you are planning a course in a university, developing a corporate training, or creating a series of workshops, having a welldesigned and purposeful plan will help your learners to acquire the skills, knowledge and values that you want them to gain by the end of the course/ training/ workshop.
Throughout the course, you’ll follow a comprehensive step-by step planning process to design courses with SMART learning outcomes, meaningful assessments and activities, a robust course structure, and technology that will surely engage learners and help them achieve the desired goals.
This is a self-paced online course comprising seven modules. Apart from engaging videos, the instructional material includes learning activities and assessments that will help you iterate on your course design and improve it through peer feedback.
The course is led by Dr. Launa Gauthier and Mr. Talha Dogar from LUMS. Together they bring a wealth of experience and skills in designing and facilitating high impact, localized educational experiences for teachers, facilitators, students, and other participants in various contexts.

This Block serves as your gateway to an engaging and experiential learning journey. In this Block, we will set clear expectations for the course journey ahead and provide guidance on navigating through the modules and resources effectively.
In this Block, you will gain a deep understanding of how learning works as you explore the four essential building blocks needed to create a constructively aligned course. You will learn how to differentiate between course-level learning outcomes and lesson-level objectives. In addition to this, you will apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop a refined list of course-level learning outcomes that are specific, action-oriented, and clearly stated. At the end of this Block, you will also engage in a peer review assessment activity where you will review your peers’ learning outcomes and get your learning outcomes assessed by them.
In this Block, you will explore the critical role of assessments in the learning process. You will identify 3 different types of assessments and understand the pivotal role of feedback in enhancing the student learning outcomes. You will also engage in a hands-on activity of designing a formative assessment and will learn how to strategically plan assessments for a constructively aligned course.
In this Block, you will learn about 6 key performances that can serve to create engaging instructional experiences and facilitate meaningful learning. In addition, you will also develop teaching and learning activities that constructively align with the assessments and learning outcomes of your course.
This Block focuses on leveraging the power of technology and integrating it meaningfully into your course. You will explore a wide range of technological tools and determine how they can be integrated in instructional practices to enhance teaching and student experiences in the classroom.
In this Block, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various components that make up an effective learner-centered course outline. You will also develop the skills to write a compelling and informative course description that captures the essence of your course. This Block will also contain a peer-graded assessment where you will be able to share your final course plan with your peers and gain valuable insights from their feedback.
This course is designed for professionals in academia, instructors, trainers, and educators involved in course design and development for higher education and training settings. It is suitable for individuals looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in creating effective and engaging courses.
No prior experience in course design or teaching is required. This course caters to learners with varying levels of expertise, from beginners to experienced professionals. The course will provide you with the necessary foundational knowledge and practical techniques to excel in course design and development.
This is a self-paced course. The recommended duration to complete the 19 hours of course material is 4-5 weeks. The course consists of engaging learning materials and interactive activities that will guide you through the course journey.
The course will provide you with a variety of resources, including instructional videos, additional readings, practical examples, templates, and tools. These resources will support your learning journey and help you apply the concepts and principles to your own course development.
