Dr Muhammad Sabieh Anwar is Professor of physics, Ahmad Dawood Chair and Dean at the LUMS Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. He helped establish the physics department at LUMS and was among the principal founders of the School’s experimental facilities and curriculum. Ideas from his physics instructional laboratories have been replicated in ten Pakistani universities. He has played an important role in introducing innovative learning tools, mostly revolving around insightful homegrown physics experiments, in Pakistan’s universities. His lectures are interspersed with in-class live demonstrations and are widely viewed over the internet. Sabieh’s research interests encompass spintronics, magnetism and optics. Sabieh has published around eighty research articles in international journals including Science, the Physical Review series, Optics Express, Journal of the American Chemical Society and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He is also Director of the upcoming National Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, wherein the lab—the Laboratory for Quantum Technologies—aims at making new discoveries in quantum science and technology. Sabieh is the General Secretary of the Khwarizmi Science Society which is focused on the popularization of science at the grassroots levels. The Lahore Science Mela curated by Sabieh has attracted more than fifty thousand visitors over a span of six days in three years. Prior to joining LUMS SSE in 2007, Sabieh was a post-doc in chemistry and materials science at University of California, Berkeley and a PhD student, as Rhodes Scholar, at the Oxford University. He is the recipient of the TWAS medal in physics for Pakistan in 2008 and the National Innovation Prize in 2015. He is member of the task force on the Culture of Science in the Muslim World, the National Committee on R&D constituted by the Higher Education Commission, and serves as Advisory Board Member of some Pakistani Universities.

Dr. Azam obtained her PhD in Mathematics from the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS), GCU, Lahore in 2013. During the course of her doctora studies she was awarded the French Embassy Split – PhD Fellowship at the Institut de Mathematiques de Jussieu (IMJ) Paris. Prior to joining LUMS she has worked as a teaching Fellow at the Information Technology University in Lahore, and has also served as a post-doctoral Fellow at ASSMS. Dr. Azam has a couple of publications in well reputed journals​ to her credit. Her research interests include Algebraic and Geometric Topology, Floer Homology and Lower Dimensional Topology.

Suleman Shahid is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and the founding director of the LUMSx – Center for Online Learning and Professional Development at LUMS. At LUMS, he directs the ‘Computer-Human Interaction for Inclusion, Wellbeing and Learning’ (CHISEL) Lab, manages the university’s Usability Lab and is the Faculty Lead for the Facebook Innovation Lab at LUMS, which is Facebook’s first Innovation Lab in Pakistan. Suleman is also a part of the National Center on Big Data and Cloud Computing at LUMS. It leads its Open Data Pakistan initiative, a first-of-its-kind open data portal in Pakistan. Suleman is also a Senior Design and Strategy Consultant. He works with private and public sectors on design-driven innovation, people-centred change management, and digital transformation projects. He is also the founder of the annual UX Pakistan design conference, the Lahore Design Festival, the UX Camps program and co-host of the Design Baithak podcast and meetups initiative. Suleman’s primary area of interest is designing learning and healthcare technologies for/with the margins in the global south with an emphasis on using participatory and inclusive design to drive innovation. His research focuses on the intersection of design, technology, and inclusion with applications to (1) assistive technologies (mobile apps and VR/AR systems) to enhance the quality of life of persons with disabilities (e.g. autism, dyslexia, visual impairment, dementia), and persons with mental health conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression), and (2) learning and playful technologies for children.
